At Askew Eyewear in Stoke Newington, we will check all patients over 40 and others that are at risk for signs of glaucoma

What is glaucoma?

Glaucoma is commonly caused by a build up of pressure in the eye which can damage the optic nerve causing loss of vision. Some types of glaucoma develop quite slowly and are painless, while other may be sudden and painful.

Loss of vision from glaucoma is irreparable so frequent eye examinations are essential.

Early Diagnosis with OCT 3d scan

Early diagnosis leads to better outcomes with Glaucoma. At Askew, we can detect glaucoma earlier by using a new technology called an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomorgraphy) 3d scan of the eyes.  This helps us identify the early loss that occurs in glaucoma and organise a referral sooner to a speicialist so that treatment can commence earlier.

Treating glaucoma

Glaucoma can be treated with eye drops, surgery or laser treatment, but the important thing is early diagnosis to prevent vision loss.
